On Sunday evening CFR Cluj won the Romanian Supercup for the second consecutive time, defeating Unirea Urziceni, score 4-2 (after penalty shots). The two teams were in a tie after 120 minutes, score 2-2. Unirea missed four penalty shots, three of them being parried by the brilliant Nuno Claro. CFR Cluj missed two penalty shots as well but managed to convert the other two. The champions started the game very well and had good opportunities in the first ten minutes. Deac shot weak from the box (2), then goalkeeper Arlauskis had to intervene twice at the same phase (7), at the shot of Kivuvu and the header of Bjelanovic. CFR opened the score in 12th minute, with a shot from long distance of Kivuvu, at his first official match for his new team: 1-0. CFR continued to play well, while Unirea tried to be dangerous through a few shots from distance of Bilasco (26) and Onofras (29). To the final of first half, CFR had the opportunity to increase their advantage, but the race of Deac (36) ended with a weak cross, while the header of Cadu (39) was saved by Arlauskis. Unirea managed to level the score after the break, with a lot of luck, after the same Kivuvu sent the ball in own post in the attempt to reject: 1-1. The two teams didn't have then important opportunities to score, until the final of second half, when Nuno Claro rejected the 35 meters free kick of Maftei (85). In extra time, Unirea managed to take the lead through Marinescu, after Cadu rejected wrong the ball at the edge of the box (97). CFR had a good opportunity to level the score, in 100th minute, but the free kick of Deac missed the post. Goalkeeper Arlauskis rejected twice in 103rd minute, the shots of E. Dica and Traore, but two minutes later he was beaten. Bjelanovic took advantage of hesitation of Unirea's defenders and crossed perfect for Deac, who just pushed the ball into the net from 2 meters.
Andrea Mandorlini, coach of CFR: "We played like a great team; in the first half we played almost perfectly. Maybe we were to blame for Kivuvu's own goal too, but what matters is our victory. This is the third time we win on penalty shots, it's anything but being lucky".
Mihai Stoica, chairman of Unirea Urziceni: "CFR have won the Supercup just like did last year, totally undeservedly. Romanian football will go on a downwards spiral because of the referees. I am curious whether CFR will win eight points in the Champions League like we did. I wish them good luck". |
