FC Vaslui wanted to obtain victory in front of AEK Athens without receiving goal on own field, but they didn't succeed that because referee Said Enjimi awarded too easy a penalty kick at a duel between Djebbour and Pavlovic. The Greeks started the game ofensive and caused problems in the first 15 minutes. AEK Athens could open the score pretty fast after two stammerings of Vaslui's defense, Leonardo and Blanco being close to goal. The hosts woke up and responded through consistent attacks. Gerlem could score after a combination with Wesley, but his shot from 8 meters was rejected by goalkeeper Saja. Even if they were at the first official game of the season, the Greeks from AEK Athens looked like a solid team, which has the experience of international matches. But the hosts have created many goal opportunities in first half, managing to open the score in 29th minute. Ghencev executed a corner from right side and Wesley Lopes headed from 8 meters for 1-0. The hosts could start the break with a bigger difference, but Genchev, Gerlem and Wesley missed the target. Second part of the game started worse for Cristi Dulca's team, referee Said awarded too easy a penalty kick after a duel in the box between Pavlovic and Djebbour. Blanco turned the penalty shot into goal and levelled the score. After the goal, AEK Athens retired in own half hoping to score again on counter attack. It didn't happen, because FC Vaslui weren't pleased with this result. Sending of Gangioveanu on the field, in 75th minute, changed the rhythm of FC Vaslui. Goal opportunities started to appear again and the Greeks were forced to defend on two lines. In 83rd minute, Marko Ljubinkovic was fouled in the box and referee showed the point from 11 meters. Wesley turned the penalty into goal and brought an important victory for the team of Dulca, who hopes to obtain qualification in group stage even on the field of the Greeks.
Cristian Dulca, coach of FC Vaslui: "Like I said before the match, we met a strong team, with international players. I warned the players that we will have a difficult match, but I am glad that we won. I want to thank to all players because they understood what to do for this game. It's a pity that referee erred when gave them that penalty kick. We are aware that in return will be much harder, so we must remain with our feet on the ground. We must remain focused and motivated. I think that chances to qualify are 50-50. We have to take advantage of our chance and to qualify".
